The Case for In-Home Sessions Year after Year

Just like your children, your home changes year after year. When we talk about smaller homes in the Bay Area, they really change as the needs of our family change.

My studio apartment in San Francisco went from just a crib in the corner of our otherwise adult space, to a fully reconfigured layout with a toy kitchen, a re-imagined closet bedroom for my oldest and a crib for my youngest in less than two years. Then we moved from that space into a larger home in Marin.

Many families in Marin County, and especially in San Francisco aren’t in their forever homes when their kids are little. We try to make smaller spaces work and sometimes it’s hard to even remember those times in your smaller spaces as your kids get older and your homes get bigger. That was the case for this family. I photographed them two years ago in this apartment when it was two toddler beds and an otherwise normal home with one kids’ bookshelf. Now it has two closet bedrooms, new furniture and a whole mini art studio.

They moved shortly after this session took place and they are so happy they have images from this time in their lives and their home as it changed.
